We were able to see Phil Robertson, Miss Kay, Al, and Lisa Robertson at one of The Blind movie premieres. Brother Phil spoke to the audience before the movie at the Ft. Worth Alliance Cinemark.

The world of entertainment is no stranger to stories of redemption, transformation, and the power of faith. Yet, every once in a while, a tale emerges that resonates deeply, not just because of its cinematic appeal but due to the real-life implications it carries.

“The Blind” is one such story. Chronicling the life of Phil Robertson before his rise to fame with “Duck Dynasty,” this movie promises to be an emotional roller-coaster, shedding light on the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of a man whose life journey has inspired many.

I asked Phil’s oldest son, Al Robertson to give me his take of The Blind movie. The young version of Al is played by Jackson Dean Vincent in the movie. Here’s what Al had to say about The Blind:

“Obviously, having lived a lot of the script of The Blind, I have an up close and unique perspective on the early life of mom and dad, Phil & Miss Kay. I was overwhelmed with hope by the film and its core message than anyone can be delivered from a rough life of bad decisions. The actress playing my mom captured her enduring optimism so well and I can’t wait to hear the impact from people seeing this amazing film.”

Who is “The Blind” movie about?

“The Blind” is a biographical film about Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the “Duck Dynasty” family. Before he became a household name with the popular reality series, Phil had a tumultuous past that many are unaware of.

Set in the 1960s, the movie delves deep into Phil’s life, highlighting his relationship with Miss Kay Robertson, the challenges posed by his addictions, and the complicated circumstances that threatened to tear his family apart.

Many people know Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty and the Unashamed Podcast. They may not know he was the starting quarterback at Louisiana Tech in front of Terry Bradshaw. And very few people know the story of who Phil Robertson was before Jesus. The Blind Movie tells that story.

“When we first sat down and talked about the concept, I had this idea. But It’s such an incredible story of healing and redemption that I just felt compelled that it needed to be told.”

What is the central theme of the movie?

At its core, “The Blind” is a story of redemption. As Phil Robertson navigates the challenges of his past, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery, seeking to overcome the shame and guilt that haunt him.

The narrative beautifully captures the essence of Phil’s transformation, emphasizing the power of love, faith, and resilience. It’s a testament to the human spirit’s ability to rise from the ashes, find redemption in the most unexpected places, and lay the foundation for future generations.

Phil Robertson has told a story about what his late sister Jan Robertson predicted when he was younger.

“Before I was converted, I was leasing a beer joint. My sister, Janice, told the preacher, ‘If you convert my brother, he’ll convert thousands.’ My little sister is telling the preacher that. ‘If you go to the beer joint and convert him, he will convert thousands.’ That’s what happened.”

Not only was he converted, but he went on to lead thousands of people to Christ.

Phil told this story about his sister, Jan, on the Unashamed Podcast. The podcast is the first I’d seen and heard Phil, Jase, and Al together in a room since Duck Dynasty. Unashamed, also a production of Tread Lively, is seen and heard by millions of people, 4 times a week. Unashamed can be seen on TheBlaze or any podcast app.

The amazing thing about the Unashamed Podcast is that it is these men (and the guests that come on) sit around the table and just talk about the Gospel. They go through God’s Word and speak to it from their differing points of view, which has personally been a powerful listen for me (and many listeners) each week.

Thanks to Phil’s duck calls leading to a “Dynasty”, this family is famous, but they are humble. They are constantly obedient to God’s Word, leading many people to Christ, and helping millions of listeners grow in their relationship with God.

What does The Blind Movie Title Mean?

The Blind Movie title has a double meaning. One is a duck “blind”. By blending into the environment and concealing the hunter’s movements, a duck blind helps increase the chance of a successful hunt.

The second, and most important, is the state of Phil Robertson before Jesus. He was spiritually “blind”. In John 9:25 the man whom Jesus healed of blindness, told the Pharisees who questioned him, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”

The Bible often refers to light or sight in context to Faith. Not only did this man have his blindness healed, but his Faith saved him.

Phil Robertson was spiritually blind for years, before his spiritual eyes were opened. He was BLIND. But now he SEES. And through this one man’s sight, thousands have seen the light.

Who are the key players in the movie?

Aron Von Andrian and Amelia Eve take on the roles of Phil and Kay Robertson, bringing to life the couple’s dynamics and the depth of their relationship. The ensemble cast also includes Emily DeForest, John Ales, Brielle Robillard, Matthew Erick White, Aaron Dalla Villa, Nick Milone, Connor Tillman, and Jackson Dean Vincent, each contributing to the rich tapestry of the narrative.

These actors portray the real lives of Phil Robertson, Kay Robertson, Si Robertson (Uncle Si), Merritt Robertson, Al Robertson, Big Al Bolen, Young Terry Bradshaw, and more.

Who is behind the production of “The Blind”?

The production sees the involvement of Willie and Korie Robertson, with Zach Dasher of Tread Lively producing.

Andrew Hyatt, known for his work on “Paul, Apostle Of Christ,” directed “The Blind.” The screenplay is co-written by Hyatt and Stephanie Katz. GND Media Group’s Bob Katz and Troy Duhon serve as executive producers, ensuring the authenticity and depth of the story.
