The Why Behind Our Scripture Shirts
I’ve created and sold t-shirts for almost 15 years and I enjoy creating Scripture shirts and Christian t-shirts mostly because of the amazing people I’ve met over the years. This time however, I have the opportunity to design and sell Christian shirts with the purpose of helping to raise funds for missions work.
Who Inspired Our Scripture Shirts?
Over the years, I’ve always wanted to create designs that not only display the message of Jesus, but also have an aesthetic that people would wear proudly. My early inspirations from around 20 years ago were C28 Clothing and Sanctify Clothing. Sanctify was a brand of Christian apparel that many famous athletes and Christian band members would wear. I bought several Sanctify t-shirts, some online and some that were sold at retail clothing stores in the mall. I even sold Sanctify Shirts in 2006-2007 through my first Christian apparel store.
While wearing a Scripture t-shirt is a great potential conversation starter, I was never a fan of the “cheezy” Christian tees that have been sold online over the years. I’m an Army veteran, so there’s a certain look that I personally like to wear. I’ve always been a fan of Christian band t-shirts because the designs look so great. Think about the shirts you see at a Toby Mac concert, or a Skillet concert. While Skillet lead singer John Cooper can make any shirt look great, I do love the look of the shirts these artists wear on stage.
Our Recommended Scripture T-shirt Designers
That said, I personally recommend Christian band shirt designs to my friends over at Disciple Threads and Quiet Strength Design. Disciple Threads is a great brand that sells awesome merch worn by several Christian artists. Quiet Strength Design is owned Josh Bramlett and Jarob Bramlett from the Christian rock band, The Protest.
I’ve bought merch from Disciple Threads and love Matt’s brand. I’ve also had several designs created by Josh Bramlett and love what those guys do.
While I don’t have the talent of these two, I do want to sell great looking Christian t-shirt designs for men and women that are comfortable and stylish. Like Matt Grice at Disciple Threads, I am passionate about creating great looking merch that is inspired by Scripture.
Scripture T-shirts & Truth
While many Christian clothing brands already offer motivational designs, I am less concerned about motivation and more concerned about designs inspired by the Truth.
For example, I love Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” But this Scripture is used out of context so much in Christian clothing. It’s a Bible verse seen on many Christian workout & gym shirts. Of course we have strength to push our bodies to the next level at the gym. But this Scripture is about being content with what we have.
In Philippians 4:12, the Apostle Paul says, “ I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” There’s nothing wrong with a Philippians 4:13 t-shirt. I just want to make sure I share the context and truth of these scriptures loudly and proudly.
