In the Bible, courage is deeply rooted in trust and faith in God. It’s not simply the absence of fear, but rather the conviction to act righteously even in the face of adversity or danger. The scriptures repeatedly call upon believers to be strong and courageous, not because of their own abilities or strength, but because they have the assurance that God is with them.
When Moses handed the reins of leadership to Joshua, the encouragement was to be “strong and courageous” because God would never abandon him (Joshua 1:9).
Similarly, numerous biblical figures, from David facing Goliath to Daniel in the lions’ den, showcased their courage not through self-reliance, but through an unwavering faith in God.
The New Testament continues this theme, as followers of Christ are urged to be courageous in proclaiming the Gospel and standing firm in their faith, despite persecution or trials. Ultimately, Biblical courage is about holding onto the promises of God, even when confronted with challenges, and acting with integrity, guided by divine assurance and purpose.
